The challenge faced by Global Scientific when designing Laboratory Products catalogue was: how to make it much easier for customers to locate the products they want - the catalogue had grown to nearly 500 pages, with several completely new product ranges and hundreds of new products. In meeting that challenge, Global Scientific have created a new catalogue and a new website that will revolutionise the way people buy from laboratory catalogues.
An electronic repository was created for all product information and drives both catalogue and website. This relational database allows customers not only to search for products in the usual way by name or catalogue number (fine if you know what they are!), but to actually filter the database using a whole range of product-specific criteria to focus down to the products that match their exact requirements. These criteria might be the temperature of a laboratory fridge, the measuring range of a centrifuge or even the type of material a test tube is manufactured from! Having narrowed the field in this way, the product comparator then displays the remaining products for easy selection. Uniquely, the website also allows the catalogue to be searched by application, and customers have access to unbiased technical product reviews and customer feedback to help them make informed choices.
The printed catalogue is also easier to use, with a new layout the laboratory products catalogue uses alphabetical product listing and comprehensive cross-referencing, and a CD-ROM version is available too.
